25 Pixels is Plenty

Carrie’s been wanting to make something in the flavor of this very cool 8-bit Seuratesque Princess Peach. As a result, I’ve been playing around with pixelating various video game characters. I’ve struck upon a pretty cool one, though it needs a little work to get the colors all set.

This is besides the point. The point is that Kotaku linked this fantastic set from AlexanderSShen, who challenged himself to express noted game characters with a mere 25 pixels. The results speak for themselves and make my own modest attempts at larger format pixelations feel… lazy.

I think Sonic comes off particularly well. I have no idea who “Scarred” is, however. Enlighten me?

Update: Scarred = Sagat. Of course!

A Short Film About Cinema Itself

35mm (by Pascal Monaco)

A really beautiful and fun little film. It’s two minutes long and comprised entirely of minimalist interpretations of 35 films. The soundtrack is a jaunty tune with some very important aural clues stitched in. (Listen carefully at the one minute mark! I’ll give you a hint: The song rhymes with schmubular thells.)

I’ve watched it a couple of times now and I’m not even close to figuring out the whole list.

What do you see? It starts with Singing in the Rain, Titanic and Jaws. I’ve got some ideas on where it goes from there, but what do you think?
