Hacked Ms. Pac-Man Arcade Machine

One of my favorite bars has a couple of sit down arcade machines in lieu of tables. After letting Ms. Pac-Man milk me of all my quarters, I drank my beer and watched the demo screens for awhile before realizing they were rotating through a large variety hacked versions of the original.

My two favorites were Ms. Pac-Man After Dark, which turns the ghosts into neon outlines while making the maze entirely invisible, and Piranha, which pretty much eliminates all evidence of anything resembling the loveable yellow blob.

25 Pixels is Plenty

Carrie’s been wanting to make something in the flavor of this very cool 8-bit Seuratesque Princess Peach. As a result, I’ve been playing around with pixelating various video game characters. I’ve struck upon a pretty cool one, though it needs a little work to get the colors all set.

This is besides the point. The point is that Kotaku linked this fantastic set from AlexanderSShen, who challenged himself to express noted game characters with a mere 25 pixels. The results speak for themselves and make my own modest attempts at larger format pixelations feel… lazy.

I think Sonic comes off particularly well. I have no idea who “Scarred” is, however. Enlighten me?

Update: Scarred = Sagat. Of course!

Rapture In The Sky

What a great trailer. It starts off underwater, looking very much like another… well, you know the name. But before you get too cozy in Andrew Ryan’s familiar little kingdom under the sea, you’re ripped out from a little fish tank and thrown through a window into a glorious city in the sky.

So is it or isn’t it? That’s the question being teased here.

Just watch. You’ll get your answer.
